Everything Is Coming Up Rosebud

CBD is everywhere! From salves to tinctures, to candy and even lube! With so many products and brands out there, it can be overwhelming to figure out where to dip your toe into the CBD pool.

But if you’re looking to bypass dipping your toes and going headfirst into CBD and its myriad health benefits, Rosebud CBD is a great place to jump in. Clean, effective, and straight to the point, depending on what you’re looking to get out of CBD, Rosebud might be the perfect tincture for you! Read on to find out.

QUALITY YOU CAN TASTE

If you’re a freak about quality like me, Rosebud CBD definitely checks out. It’s made from CBD-rich hemp flowers grown in Oregon, one of only four states that has mandates in place for CBD protocol. It is also free of pesticides, herbicides, solvents, fillers, additives, preservatives or flavorings. Some CBD tinctures I’ve used have stevia, monk fruit, or other additives and “natural” (aka artificial) flavors. Which seems a little backwards, because if you’re going to position your product as a wellness supplement, don’t add that kind of crap to it.  Am I right?  Whatever, call me a purist. That’s why this purist was stoked to find out that Rosebud’s CBD tincture has just two ingredients: cannabinoids and MCT oil (aka fractionated coconut oil aka fancy coconut oil). The coconut oil comes in handy because CBD is fat-soluble, meaning it absorbs best when it’s alongside saturated fats. It also gives the tincture a delightfully silky texture. I won’t beat around the bush though; Rosebud’s tincture retains a lot of the cannabis flavor. But like I said, I’m a purist and if I’m taking CBD, I’d rather it taste like cannabis than Berry Berry Blueberry Bonanza.

THE FEELS

OK, but how did I feel? The first three times I took Rosebud’s tincture, I hadn’t read the instructions or dosage information. That would have been helpful. A half a dropper of the Full Strength (they have classic and double strength tinctures too) clocks in at ~35mg while a full dropper is ~70mg. Which for context, is a lot more than the 15mg in my favorite CBD tea. It also explains the great night’s sleep I got each night I took Rosebud. I slept the whole night through without waking up — which is cool because most nights I get up to go pee at least once. I’m pretty weird when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep and I feel like waking up to use the restroom throws a serious wrench into that, so I really appreciated the good night’s sleep with no pee breaks that Rosebud gave me.
But there was one downside to all the sleep that came with Rosebud’s Full Strength CBD tincture. I normally wake up at 6 am without an alarm (yes, this is a blessing and a curse), but when I took Rosebud I found that I was sleeping — and sleeping hard — until 8am. I felt groggy, a feeling I’m not used to having, and not eager to repeat. So, I did what any normal person would do and took 70mg before going to the grocery store…
I’m typically a very frantic grocery shopper. I shop for non-perishables first because I’m scared cold things like spinach and eggs will go bad if I walk around the store with them, wasting precious time that they could be spending in the refrigeration aisle. Crazy? Totally. But with 70mg of CBD all those worries went out the window. Sure, it took me 15 minutes longer than a normal grocery store outing would have, but I was way more relaxed. I even grabbed the eggs first without giving it a second thought. This, I thought, was the only way to grocery shop ever. This was life without anxiety. But as soon as I got home I found the comfiness of my couch was too much to resist and before I knew it, I was giving in to a little 6pm cat nap... and learning that their suggested doses weren’t for everyone.

FINAL VERDICT

I think Rosebud’s CBD is great; it’s clean and effective, but their Full-Strength tincture was just too strong for me. Fortunately, I’m not trying to treat any severe issues with CBD nor am I looking to it to swap out conventional medications — I simply use CBD to keep my mild anxiety in check and to chill out at night and hopefully sleep a little better. It did those things, but the sleepiness and grogginess were deal breakers for me. I appreciate their commitment to clean, quality CBD though and am eager to try their less potent tinctures.

All in all: I wouldn’t suggest Rosebud’s Full Strength CBD tincture if you’re brand new to CBD or wary of it at all. If you’re curious and just want to chill out a little, I would start with CBD chocolate or tea instead and work your way up to the Classic Strength Rosebud which delivers ~12.5mg in half a dropper and ~25mg in a full dropper. That said, if you want to get straight to the point and see what all the fuss is about — or are suffering from extreme anxiety, chronic pain, sleeplessness or anything else beyond just mild anxiety and curiosity — I would recommend you try Rosebud Full Strength. (Side note because we have to say it: Please consult your health care professional about potential interactions or other possible complications before using any product.)
