A Hemp Protein Smoothie Recipe That Tastes Like (Cacao) Magic
If you’re looking for a way to get more protein in your diet, but can’t stand the tinny aftertaste of alternative sweeteners like monkfruit or stevia (which is in powders like Vega and Primal Kitchen), you’re going to love Philosophie’s Cacao Magic Hemp protein powder.
Picture a really Cross Fit-y protein powder, with its aggressive label and long scary list of ingredients you can’t pronounce — then picture the exact opposite, and you’ll have Philosophie’s Cacao Magic. It’s made simply of cacao powder, Hemp protein, cacao nibs, reishi mushroom powder, mesquite seed pod powder, maca root powder, chia seeds, and vanilla — and it’s all organic.
Despite not having any sweeteners, Cacao Magic tastes decadent and rich, not unlike milk chocolate. And if you’re looking to cut down on animal byproducts in your diet, hemp is a great way to get your protein in a plant-based way. Oh and the maca, mesquite, and reishi classify it as a (delicious) superfood.
Cacao Magic can be used as a topping on oatmeal or toast or added to batters like waffles and cookie dough, but our favorite way to use it is in smoothies. The smoothie recipe we’re sharing below follows the Kelly Leveque (author of Body Love and nutritionist to celebrities like Jessica Alba and Jennifer Garner) Fab Four model — but feel free to use Cacao Magic in any chocolate-based smoothie. Leveque recommends basing your meals around the Fab Four (protein, fat, fiber, and greens) to stay fuller, longer to help you avoid needlessly snacking (and spiking your blood sugar) in between meals. So, fruit lovers beware, there’s no banana in this recipe — but trust us when we say it’s still delicious.
2 tablespoons Cacao Magic by Philosophie
1-2 handfuls of spinach
1 tablespoon nut butter of choice
1 tablespoon fiber (chia seeds or acacia fiber work great)
1 cup nut milk of choice
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Dash of cinnamon
Ice optional
Blend. Enjoy!
